How it started
The concept for PixieLoot emerged a few years ago when my oldest child started losing her baby teeth. Ever the idealist, I had always imagined that this experience would be a magical one for both of us. I didn’t want to just leave a few coins under her pillow. No, we would start new traditions! There would be trinkets! And tiny letters with whimsical stories! And delightful tooth fairy lore that unfolded with each new wiggly tooth!
Most children start losing baby teeth around the age of six, so (quite naively) I thought I had plenty of time to create my literary canon and stockpile treasures. Instead, my kid lost her first tooth right after she turned five. And then, a mere two months later, a second tooth made its exit (an exodus that I suspect was induced by a very eager five-year-old who yearned for more prizes).
Needless to say, I was unprepared.
Both times.
In a frenzy, I rushed to our local craft store to find unique and interesting things — buttons, beads, baubles — that could become gifts from the tooth fairy. Then, late at night, I wrote letters in my best tooth fairy voice, telling fanciful stories about the items that were left behind. My kid loved it. Each and every time.
Eventually I became better at procuring trinkets in advance of any wiggly teeth (or forced evictions).
Hassle-free magic, if you will
And while the tooth fairy experience was full of joy and wonder for my child, for me it always felt, well, like work. Writing the letters was especially difficult. I found myself wishing for a company or service that offered pre-packaged, ready-to-go tooth fairy kits that I could easily drop into her room without much effort on my part.
If you search the Internet, you will find companies and shops that offer tooth fairy supplies. For me, these options fell short of what I needed or wanted. Some were too cartoonish. Others were too gendered, too expensive, or too far away (hello, England!). Few offered the kinds of treasures that met my standards of quality and uniqueness. So, I created PixieLoot to fill that gap.
We’re happy you’re here and we hope we have what you are looking for. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Toothfully yours,
